Heritage Texas Dewberry Preserves
The mayhaw fruit, which grows on Hawthorne trees covered in thorns, resembles something of small crabapples or a cranberry. Mayhaw fruit is highly acidic and offers a bitter to sweet-sour flavor depending upon variety.
Also known as the Texas blackberry. The berries of dewberry plants are purplish red, similar to raspberries. The seeds are much larger and tougher than those of the blackberry and they are more tart than blackberries.
Prickly pear cactus grow native in the Texas Hill Country. The fruit on the cactus also known as the tuna offer flavors that are sweet and subtly fruity.
